shopliftingDrama ensued on Wednesday evening after two women were caught stashing commodities inside their bags at a supermarket Murang’a town, which had allegedly lost thousands through the vice.

The women are said to have entered the shop then positioned themselves strategically before emptying half a dozen cups into their handbags, oblivious of CCTV cameras right above their heads.

Attendants observing the cameras noticed the women while in the act and quickly responded, apprehending the suspects as they hurriedly left the shopping mall.

The two identified as Njoki and Muthoni, were then paraded to curious onlookers holding placards indicating they were thieves before police officers were called in.

In their defence, the woman purported to be innocent claiming that they did not consider shoplifting a crime, after being told by one of their accomplices that they would be given stolen items for free by the shop workers.

However, their plea fell on deaf ears as they were whisked away to Murang’a Police Station for further interrogation.

In December, police in Nairobi cautioned residents against a gang spotted stealing from foreigners as they took lunch at a city restaurant.

The gang, also composed of women, was reported to be trailing unsuspecting victims before mastering a convenient plan and location to execute the crime.
