Live from State House, This Man Has a Message for Uhuru and Ruto

Remember that video of Uhuru and Ruto standing in front of a green screen during the campaigns? The then Presidential and Deputy Presidential candidates were filming and TV advert but could not keep it together and instead laughed the whole way.

One guy has found โ€˜properโ€™ use for the video. He has made a narration of his own showing how the two are โ€˜making merryโ€™ in State House as the country suffers.

President William Ruto on Monday paid his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta a courtesy call at his Ichaweri home in Gatundu.

In a statement, State House said the two leaders discussed matters of nationalย and regional importance andย underscored the importance ofย cultivating a nationalistic, patriotic, andย harmonious working relationship among allย Kenyans and stakeholders.

“President Ruto took the opportunity to reiterateย his appreciation and commendation of Hisย Excellency President Kenyattaโ€™s statesmanship inย overseeing the peaceful transfer of power after theย 2022 elections, as well as the goodwill the formerย President has continued to demonstrate towardย his fellow leaders and his support for Kenyaโ€™sย ongoing progress and development,” the statement read in part.

It added that the two leadersย acknowledged the challenging globalย environment affecting many countries, includingย Kenya, caused by a complex of factors.

The issues included theย disruptive effects of COVID-19, the war inย Ukraine – which destabilised supply chains and ledย to high commodity prices, particularly for fertiliserย and wheat – volatile currency markets, and a harshย macroeconomic climate.

The pair, popular as UhuRuto during their political heydays under the Jubilee administartion, appreciated that steps have been made in the right direction in addressing theย adverse impacts, especially inย reducing inflation to its lowest level in the pastย decade, lowering food prices,ย stabilising the Kenyan shilling, and reducingย interest rates.

The leaders also appreciated the need toย achieve broader and more inclusive politicalย consensus in the governance of the country toย accelerate the attainment of sinclusive growth andย fulfill the national development agenda.

State House saidย Ruto thanked Uhuru forย laying a strong foundation that has enabled the Kenya Kwanzaย government to implement key programmes under theย Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.

“They also underscored the importance ofย cultivating a nationalistic, patriotic, andย harmonious working relationship among allย Kenyans and stakeholders, including the three armsย of government, religious leaders, civil society, andย other partners, to ensure collective nationalย stability and progress.”

Also on the cards, State House said, was the issuee of the reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, which has beenm delayed by a court injuction over the constitution of the selecton panel.

State House said the two leaders called forย prompt resolution of the courtย mattersย to facilitate the appointment ofย commissioners.

On Kenya’s candidancy for the African Union Commission chairmanship, Ruto and Uhuru called on Kenyans, friends ofย Kenya and the international partners to supportย Raila Odinga for theย position as the February 2025 election date fast approcahes.

On regional matters, the leadersย acknowledged Kenyaโ€™sย leading role in promoting peace and security in theย East African region through diplomatic and peaceย support initiatives, which are crucial to resolvingย conflicts, restoring peace, and fostering regionalย stability.

Uhuru is the AU-Kenya Peace Envoy and Facilitator of the EAC-Ledย ย Nairobiย Peace Process.
