A section of women supporters allied to Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya on Monday held an anti-ODMdemonstration over what they termed as disrespect by the Orange party.
According to the protesters, Women Representatives Aisha Jumwa (Kilifi) and Mishi Mboko (Mombasa) acted in disrespect to Mvurya when they sang ‘funeral’ songs aimed at bidding the governor goodbye.
The two female legislators were among other leaders led by Raila Odinga and Mombasa GovernorAli Hassan Joho who attacked Mvurya last Friday for ditching ODM to join Jubilee.
Ms Jumwa led others in singing a “send-off” song for Mvurya which the women said was disrespectful. Carrying placards and leaves, the women dismissed anyone wanting to dictate to them concerning county matters.
One of the protesters, Asha Makei from Msambweni, was quoted by The Standard saying it was time neighbouring counties stopped interfering in Kwale matters.
“We will stand with Mvurya in whichever party he chooses. We are not fazed by threats from Joho, Mishi or Jumwa,” another protester declared.
On Thursday last week, Odinga warned Governor Mvurya of an uncertain future in the new Jubilee Party adding that the county boss had “opted for a dangerous destination”.
The Opposition leader said he wondered why Mr Mvurya had abandoned ODM, even after he personally assured him of fair ODM nominations ahead of the 2017 polls.
