“When NASA leaders Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka went to campaign in Eldoret, they endorsed (Jackson) Mandago, who is the Jubilee candidate.

We hope they will respect our decision to back Lenku because we feel he is best placed person to foster harmony among tribes living in the county,” said Njagi.

Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Ole Lenku’s bid for the Kajiado gubernatorial seat received a significant boost when a faction of NASA (National Super Alliance) leaders endorsed his candidacy.

This endorsement came despite Lenku vying on a Jubilee Party ticket, highlighting a strategic political alignment.

The group, led by ODM Deputy Director of Elections Bob Njagi, expressed support for Lenku, emphasizing his potential to foster unity among the diverse communities in Kajiado County.

They drew parallels to a previous instance where NASA principals endorsed Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago, who was also running on a Jubilee ticket, underscoring a precedent for cross-party support in the region.

Further consolidating his position, Kajiado County Assembly Speaker Johnson Osoi, initially a supporter of Lenku’s rival Tarayia ole Kores, publicly declared his support for Lenku.

ole Kores pledged their allegiance to Lenku’s campaign. The event was also attended by Internal Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery, who urged Kajiado residents to vote for Jubilee candidates, further strengthening Lenku’s political base.

Lenku’s political journey has been marked by his tenure as the second Governor of Kajiado County, a position he secured in the 2017 general elections with 54% of the vote.

His leadership was recognized nationally when he was elected as the chairperson of the Council of Governors in 2022, though he was later defeated by Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru in a subsequent election.

In a notable development in 2024, Lenku received a special honor during the ODM National Governing Council meeting, where he spoke on behalf of all ODM governors and the Council of Governors.

ODM leader Raila Odinga acknowledged Lenku’s significant contributions to the party, placing him alongside former governors Wycliffe Oparanya and Hassan Joho in terms of impact.

These endorsements and recognitions underscore Lenku’s influential role in both local and national politics, positioning him as a formidable candidate in the Kajiado gubernatorial race.
