Former Mombasa senator Hassan Omar has said that he will campaign for president Kenyatta if he asked him to do so directly.He said that the president was a good ally.
He denied that he had been an wooed to Jubilee after pictures emerged of him and Nairobi governor Mike Sonko and leader of majority Aden Duale at the funeral of permanent secretary Mariam El Mawwy.
Hassan Omar said that he and Governor Sonko had previously worked together and had good working relations.
He said that his alliance with Uhuru Kenyatta would cause a power shift in the coastal region.
The former senator had earlier said that he would not campaign for Raila Odinga. He had earlier this year cut ties with his party, Wiper.

Political Career
Senator for Mombasa County (2013–2017): Omar served as the Senator for Mombasa County under the Wiper Democratic Movement-Kenya and the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD). In the Senate, he served as Vice Chair of the Committee on County Public Accounts and Investments and was a member of committees on legal affairs, human rights, and devolved government. He sponsored the Preservation of Human Dignity and Enforcement of Economic and Social Rights Bill (2015), aimed at implementing Article 43 of the Constitution on social justice and equality.​
Secretary General of Wiper Democratic Movement: Omar served as Secretary General of the Wiper Party and was part of the management of both CORD and the National Super Alliance (NASA). During his tenure, he established the Renaissance Centre, a civic hub promoting public discourse, governance, and citizen participation.​
East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member: In 2022, he was elected to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), where he represents Kenya.
Secretary General of United Democratic Alliance (UDA): In August 2024, Omar was appointed as the Secretary General of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), taking over from Cleophas Malala. His appointment followed Malala’s removal due to alleged dereliction of duties. Omar pledged to focus on implementing the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, which promises inclusive growth for all. ​
Early Life and Education
Omar began his career as a student leader and political activist at Moi University. He rose to national prominence as a commissioner and vice chairperson of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), where he led campaigns on security sector reform and accountability, including the landmark report The Cry of Blood. He is a recipient of the Sergio Vieira de Mello Human Rights Award in 2011.

Omar is married to Asli Osman Mahamud and has children. He is affiliated with the Kenya Kwanza political coalition. His professional background is in law, and he is known for his advocacy in human rights and governance.
