NASA MP arrested over anti-election demos

Matayos Member of Parliament Geoffrey Odanga was Friday evening arrested in Busia for allegedly inciting youth to disrupt voting in the border town.

The legislator, who is allied to the NASA opposition coalition, was taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Busia for further interrogation over the claims of incitement.

Reports indicate that the MP was being trailed by the CID officers since Thursday before being arrested near the Busia Agricultural Training at around 6 pm.

Mr Odanga is being accused of having incited youth to disrupt voting at Bwamani polling station where police officers were forced to intervene to calm the situation.

He was later released at around 8.30 pm after two hours of questioning. The MP was ordered to report back to the station on Monday (October 30).

He denied the accusations leveled against him, claiming that the government is bent on gagging opposition leaders.
