Governor Ann Waiguru on Wednesday stormed the Kianyaga subcounty hospital after residents complained over lack of drugs.

Accompanied by Health CEC Agnes Gachoki, Waiguru made an impromptu visit to the facility.

Earlier, angry residents lectured her after she said that all hospitals in the county are fully stocked with drugs.

During a meeting in the county, an elderly woman told Waiguru that she was unable to get medication from the facility.

“Last week my grandchild was taken ill with pneumonia and difficulty in breathing and we visited Kianyaga hospital. After consultation we were informed that there is no drugs and the only option is to go and buy at private chemist. I spent Sh2,000 with drugs,” the woman said.

She spoke during a public participation meeting for Kirinyaga Rising Vision 2035.

Residents booed as the Governor said, “There is no way you can be forced to buy drugs when there is enough in all health facilities in the county.”

Waiguru headed straight to the facility where she met more patients who claimed they were being forced to buy medication outside the hospital.

The county boss put officials on the spot and questioned them over the lack of medication.

She directed for drugs not available to be purchased immediately and those in need to be given alternatives.
