Wanja Nyarari Rebukes Hassan Omar Hassan Over Alleged Hate Speech

Political commentator Wanja Nyarari has sharply criticized United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Hassan Omar Hassan over remarks she described as divisive and damaging to national unity.

In a strongly worded statement that has sparked debate among Kenyans both locally and in the diaspora, Wanja accused Hassan Omar of promoting rhetoric that risks deepening tribal divisions at a time when the country needs cohesion and issue-based leadership.

According to Wanja, Hassan Omar’s public statements do not reflect the position of President William Ruto or the broader leadership of the ruling UDA party.

“Hassan, you are my friend, and I have known you for so long. At some point I even told you to sieve what you say when you hold a mic,” Wanja stated.

She went on to accuse the UDA Secretary General of damaging the image of President William Samoei Ruto through statements perceived by critics as inflammatory.

“Allow me to tell you the truth, you have tainted the image of the UDA party leader H.E William Samoei Ruto in bad faith. I have confirmed without fear of contradiction that the party leader does not approve of your hatred speech,” she added.

Calls for Restraint in National Leadership

Wanja argued that leaders occupying national offices must exercise restraint, wisdom, and inclusivity when addressing the public.

“As the Secretary General of the United Democratic Alliance, Hassan Omar Hassan occupies a national office that requires restraint, inclusivity, and cohesion,” she stated.

She further claimed that his recent statements have continued to attract accusations of ethnic incitement and political division, warning that such rhetoric could undermine Kenya’s unity.

“For the sake of national unity and the integrity of the party, you should consider stepping aside or resigning from the position,” Wanja said.

The remarks come amid growing concerns among Kenyans over the return of tribal politics and ethnic tensions in the country’s political discourse.

“Kenya Belongs to All Tribes Equally”

In her message, Wanja emphasized that Kenya belongs to every community regardless of tribe, religion, or political affiliation.

She listed several communities including Kikuyu, Luo, Luhya, Kalenjin, Kamba, Kisii, Mijikenda, Somali, and Maasai, stressing that no Kenyan should ever feel excluded or targeted because of their ethnicity.

“Kenya belongs to all tribes equally. No Kenyan should feel targeted because of their tribe,” she said.

She urged political leaders to abandon divisive politics and focus instead on development, respect, and peaceful coexistence.

“We must reject tribal politics completely and return to issue-based leadership, respect, and coexistence,” she concluded.

Diaspora Reactions to Kenya’s Political Climate

The debate has also attracted reactions from Kenyans living abroad, many of whom continue to follow political developments back home closely.

Members of the Kenyan diaspora have repeatedly called on leaders to avoid inflammatory statements that could damage Kenya’s international image and discourage investment, tourism, and unity among communities abroad.

For many Kenyans overseas, tribal politics remains one of the biggest barriers to national progress, with diaspora communities often advocating for merit-based leadership and peaceful coexistence.

As political tensions continue to rise ahead of future electoral contests, calls for responsible leadership and national unity are likely to remain at the center of public discourse.
