From the quiet hills of Kirangi Village in Molo Constituency, Nakuru County, Harrison Gitau’s journey began in a modest rural setting shaped by discipline and ambition. He attended St. Brendan’s Primary School before joining Elburgon Secondary School, where he turned a modest KCPE performance into a strong B+ in KCSE—proof, even then, that commitment could unlock bigger opportunities.

In 2013, Harrison enrolled at Maseno University to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences. Midway through his studies, a cancer diagnosis led him to seek treatment in India. This interrupted his academic path and reshaped his future. Determined to rebuild, he later pursued a Diploma in Medical Imaging Sciences at Kenya Medical Training College, Nyeri Campus. He graduated in 2022. He secured employment as a medical imaging technician at Naivasha County Referral Hospital under the Nakuru County Government.

Despite professional stability, Harrison sought greater impact. In 2023, after learning about the International Scholars Program through a relative, he enrolled in career advisory sessions. There, he discovered Health Informatics and Bioinformatics. These are fields that blended his biomedical background and clinical experience.

He applied to both Grand Valley State University and the University of Delaware, ultimately choosing Grand Valley State University. With funding advisory support, he secured a $30,000 loan for I-20 processing and successfully navigated visa preparation, earning approval on his first attempt.

From herding livestock in Molo to pursuing a Master’s in Health Informatics and Bioinformatics in the U.S., Harrison’s story reflects resilience, strategic guidance, and the belief that global impact can rise from humble beginnings.
