Police in Mombasa are holding three suspects including two ex-military officers accused of posing as police officers and fleecing money from members of the public outside banking halls in the coastal town.
The three had carried out these activities for over a month before police caught up with them in Athi River’s Mlolongo area. Violet Otindo brings us that report.

In October 2024, two individuals, Tabitha Wangeci Kwena and Wycliffe N. Nyamanya, were arrested in Bamburi, Mombasa, for impersonating Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) officers.
Accompanied by uniformed police officers, they conducted fake inspections in shops, accusing owners of selling expired goods and demanding bribes ranging from KSh 20,000 to KSh 50,000 for release and return of confiscated stock .​
The suspects operated under the guise of a non-existent agency, Multi-Works & Rights Enforcement, and had previously engaged in similar activities in regions like Kakamega, Kisumu, Meru, and Voi.
They reportedly deceived police into believing they were legitimate officers, even arranging for police escorts during their operations .​
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) initiated an investigation following complaints from affected traders.
The suspects were detained at Central Police Station in Mombasa and later arraigned before the Mombasa Anti-Corruption Court.
