Royal Media in trouble:CCK shuts six transmitters stations

The Communication Commission of Kenya has shut down six transmitter stations out of 17 operated by the Royal Media Services across the country over what it termed as self appropriation of frequencies illegally.

The commission’s Chief Executive Officer Francis Wangusi said a number of media players and others in the security and Aviation industries have raised complaints about interferences in their operations, something.

Wangusi issued a stern warning to operators who he said were operating frequencies illegally.

He said the commission was charged with the responsibility to manage the country’s frequency resources, hence the need to ensure orderly exploitation of scarce and limited frequency spectrum.

The six transmitter stations that have now been put off air were located in Narok, Nakuru, Mukuyuni in Ukambani, and Mambrui in Malindi.

He said the Commission shall in the next few days shut down the remaining 11 illegal stations to ensure that all players in the broadcasting sector adhere to the law.
