The United States of America ( US) has commended the Kenyans for participating peacefully in the March 4 national elections.
In a press statement posted on US Department of State site by Patrick Ventrell, the Acting Deputy Spokesperson on Tuesday, the UScongratulated Kenyans for voting in a calm, patient, and orderly manner even though there were scattered acts of violence in some parts of the country.
“The United States applauds the Kenyan people for participating peacefully in the March 4 nationalelections,” said the press release.
Even though the final results were not yet in, US encouraged the Independent Elections and Boundaries Commission ( IEBC) to continue tallying the votes in a thorough, transparent, and professional manner.
The statement also encouraged all Kenyans to come together and move forward peacefully to realise the full promise and benefits of the new constitution.
“We urge that any election disputes be resolved peacefully through the Kenyan legal system. It is critical that Kenya avoids the post-election violence that marred the December 2007 presidential contest.”
