Kenya Moves Up in FIFA Ranking: What Changed

Kenya has improved four positions in the latest Federation International of Football Association ( FIFA) ranking to position 122.

The gain is attributed to the Harambee stars 1-1 draw with the Eagle of Nigeria in the 2014 World Cup qualifier match played in March 2013

In the continent Nigeria is at the top at position  31 followed by Algeria at position 35. Uganda however is ranked 92 whileTanzania clinched position 116.

Spain retained position one by 1538 points, followed by Germany and Argentina in the third position respectively.

Kenya’s national football team, the Harambee Stars, experienced a notable rise in the FIFA rankings, climbing six positions to 102nd globally.

This improvement is attributed to their strong performances in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, including a significant 2-1 victory over Namibia and a goalless draw against Zimbabwe.

However, following a series of underwhelming results, including a failure to qualify for the 2025 AFCON, Kenya’s ranking dropped to 108th. This decline coincided with Tanzania’s advancement to 106th place, surpassing Kenya in the process.

As of the latest update, the Harambee Stars are ranked 108th globally.

In the broader East African context, Uganda leads the region with a ranking of 90th, followed by Tanzania at 106th, and Kenya at 108th.

Globally, Argentina maintains the top position, with France and Spain rounding out the top three.
