The MPs who were elected on Amani and Cord coalitions said they will cooperate with the government to benefit their region. They included the host Mt Elgon MP John Serut, deputy chief whip Ben Washiali, Emase Mary, Ayub Savula, Malulu Injendi, Emmmanuel Wangwe, Bernard Shinali, Charles Kimose, Dan Wanyama and Bungoma MP Reginalda Wanyonyi.

Others are, Pukose Robert and Justice Francis Kemei. Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka, his deputy Hillary Chongwony, county commissioner Maalim Mohamed and Tranzoia county deputy speaker David Poloman were also present.

Wanyonyi provoked politics when she said the region should not be left behind its leaders were not elected on Jubilee ticket. “Western MPs have resolved to fully support the government. We know there are dissenting voices from this region but we urge the president and his deputy to ignore them. We do not want to be left behind when the country is moving forward,” she said.

“If your father dies and another man inherits your mother you shift your allegiance the new father,” Washiali said. Savula said the region has untapped resources stands which residents can benefit from if leaders work with the government.

“We vied using different parties which wanted to make the government. Now that the government is in place, let us work with it,” he said. Savula said the national government is important even if only 15 per cent of its funds are devolved to the counties.

Serut asked Jubilee not to be deterred by persons he termed as ‘noisemakers’. He said they have no authority as they do not hold any relevant office and cannot therefore deliver their electoral pledges. Serut instead asked legislators aligned to the government to deal with development agendas.

“Let the government be left to concentrate on delivering what they promised Kenyans. As law makers, we will deal with the noisemakers at the floor of the house,” he said. Ruto thanked the legislators for their reassurances and reiterated the government’s commitment to honour its electoral pledges.
