President Uhuru attends Labour Day Celebration, orders minimum wage increase

President Uhuru Kenyattat and his Deputy William Ruto joined other Kenyans on Wednesday at Uhuru Park in Nairobi to mark Labour Day.This is  the first Labour Day celebrations under the new government of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In his address,President Uhuru Kenyatta said minimum wage should to be increased by 14 per cent with immediate effect.He reiterated that his government would work towards reducing the cost of basic commodities and promote Small and Medium Enterprises.

He also  urged Kenyans in the Diaspora to keep saving funds in local banks to boost the country’s economy.

In a surprise about-turn,  Cotu Secretary General Francis Atwoli said MPs should not push for higher perks and that lower cadre workers deserve better pay.
