Kenyan held with gold worth Rs 46L at airport

MUMBAI: A Kenya national was arrested by the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) at the Mumbai airportwhile trying to smuggle gold worth Rs 46 lakh on Saturday. The woman, who had come from Kenya, had kept the gold in a cloth satchel and draped a shawl to cover it.

AIU officials said she was stopped on suspicion at the green channel. “She had draped a shawl and said she was ill. After a thorough check, we found gold in her bag,” an official said, adding that the satchel was stashed with gold biscuits and ornaments. “She hadn’t declared the gold and was about to smuggle it out of the terminal,” said an official.
