If you have a garden or a flower bed and you do not tend to it for several weeks, in most cases the garden would be full weeds that could have sprung up and taken over due to neglect. Interestingly enough weeds do not need tending to grow rather they seem to love to sprout up for anyone who just lets things go. A beautiful flower bed needs proper watering, feeding and weeding. With this the flowers will definitely thrive under good care.
The same is true for the Christian life. We have to work to keep our lives in check by committing our whole being to Jesus that is our body, mind, emotions and will to have a life that is wholesome, attractive and uplifting to others. However, we need to be alert because weeds of selfishness and sinful attitudes can quickly spring up and overrun the fruit of the Spirit.
Living a life of holiness requires us to uproot any form of weeds in our lives which could be selfishness, envy or sinful living. Paul when writing to the Corinthians told them to cleanse themselves from all filthiness of the flesh and the spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. For the weeding process to happen we need to identify sins of the flesh, call them sin and confess them and finally stand firm in your position in Christ. If we yield to God, we will not give in to sin and the beauty of Jesusโ character will be seen in our lives.
“every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.”
