NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 3- President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday joined tourists in Maasai Mara National Game Reserve to view the great Wildebeest Migration.
The spectacular view which attracts a large number of tourists from around the world annually took place at Kichwa Tembo in the game reserve.
The president was accompanied in the tour mission by East African Affairs and Tourism Secretary Phyllis Kandie among other senior government officials.
The president was later scheduled to attend a stakeholder’s forum for the tourism sector to discuss emerging issues and seek lasting solutions.
The unique occasion, dubbed the Eighth wonder of the World, takes place annually from July through to October, where over 2 million animals migrate from the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania to the greener pastures of the Maasai Mara National Reserve.
Since last week, tourists have been camping at the game reserve, pitching tents along the banks of Mara River to experience the unique event.
The Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) describes the event as one of the country’s remarkable wildlife attractions that make’s Kenya one of the best wildlife destinations in the world and which has continued to largely contribute to the tourism sector earnings.
Covering an area of over 1,500 square kilometres, the Masai Mara National Game Reserve is located in the Great Rift Valley in primarily open grassland with over 95 animal species.
Apart from the wildebeest, other animals that migrate through the Mara River include Zebras and Gazelles.-capitalfm.co.ke
