15 motorists arrested over the weekend due to drunken driving have been fined Ksh.10, 000 each at the Millimani Law Courts.

The 15 before the court pleaded guilty to all charges.

If the 15 fail to pay the fine, they are to be jailed for 3 months.

A warrant of arrest has been issued for the remaining 21 who did not appear in court.

The thirty six motorists were arrested at various road blocks within Nairobi over the weekend after they failed the alco-blow test.

While re-introducing the alco-blow gadgets early this month, Transport Cabinet Secretary Engineer Michael Kamau said the gadgets will be used to curb road carnage in the country.

The gadget was first introduced in 2006 before being stopped by courts in 2010 and later in 2011.

So far over 3,000 deaths have occurred on Kenyan roads, a number that has seen the government through the transport ministry re-introduce the alcoblow breathalyzer in a bid to curb the accidents brought about by drunk driving.

There have been close to 6000 road accidents since January that have claimed over 3,000 lives.
