Francis Atwoli Re-elected Vice-president Of World’s Largest Labour Federation
May 26 (BERNAMA-NNN-KBC) — Francis Atwoli, secretary-general of Kenya’s Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU K), has been re-elected unopposed for a second time as vice president of International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC).
The ITUC is the world’s largest trade union federation and global voice of the working people.
Atwoli was elected by more than 1,700 delegates during the 3rd ITUC World Congress held in Berlin last week, according to a statement from COTU K released Saturday.
“Atwoli’s election was a great honour not only for Kenyan workers but for the region and Africa as a whole, and was a clear manifestation of the confidence workers the world over had in his ability to deliver on their agenda,” the statement said.
Atwoli was also elected unopposed as member of the ITUC General Council, the supreme decision-making organ of the ITUC.
The ITUC represents more than 176 million workers through its 325 National Affiliated Trade Union Organisations, including Kenya’s COTU (K) in 161 countries and territories.
