Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has downplayed differences between Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero and Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) leaders saying they fully support him.
Mr Odinga, who paid a courtesy call on the Governor at the City Hall Wednesday, said they have confidence in Dr Kidero whom he described as a โkey plank in the Coalitionโ.
โWe in Cord fully support the Governor and will ensure that he gets all the backing he needs to deliver to the people of Nairobi,โ he said.
Mr Odinga spent the better part of the morning at the City Hall where he met Dr Kidero before holding lengthy meetings with Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) allied to the Cord and some County Executives.
โThe Governor has a difficult task of ensuring that key services such as infrastructure, education, health, garbage collection and the general welfare of the Nairobi people are delivered,โ said Mr Odinga while addressing the media.
An elated Kidero said they had fruitful discussions on issues affecting the people of Nairobi.
โWe are happy that Baba (father) found time to be with us this morning to talk about issues of development touching on how, as a County Government, we should address the needs of Nairobi people,โ he said.
Mr Odinga was accompanied by Cord MPs among them T. J. Kajwang, Irshad Sumra, Mohamed Junet, Mpuri Aburi and Kisumu Senator Anyang’ Nyong’o.
Dr Kidero has been on the receiving end from a section of Cord leaders who accused him of undermining the opposition by being too close to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Government.
During Railaโs homecoming rally on May 31, Dr Kidero was heckled as he tried to address the gathering at Uhuru Park.
