Cord chiefs to pick referendum team
Cord leaders will meet Tuesday to approve the final list of members to spearhead the push for a national referendum.
Coalition principals Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula separately confirmed that the meeting which will bring together leaders drawn from ODM, Wiper and Ford Kenya and their advisors will scrutinise the names already proposed and decide on the final list.
Mr Odinga told the Nation on Friday that they were still consulting over the names since the task before them team was enormous.
“We will release the names on Wednesday next week. For now, we are still holding consultations among ourselves over the composition of the team,” he said by telephone.
Mr Musyoka said they were determined to push on with the national referendum, arguing that the issues which have been raised by Cord were “not small”.
Drive the national referendum
“We will meet on Tuesday over the team to drive the national referendum. These are not small matters and it is time every leader recognised that this country is important and we need to solve problems without acrimony,” he said.
Mr Wetangula said they had identified some experts who would form the referendum committee. He however declined to name the experts saying it was premature.
“It is too early to release the names. We are meeting to agree on the individuals and once that happens, we will let you know. We of course have some names in mind but it is too early to reveal them at this stage,” said the Senate Minority leader.
Mr Odinga, Mr Musyoka and Mr Wetangula spent the better part of Friday and the weekend in meetings with their advisors scouting around for names of experts in various fields to sit on the committee.
