BOMET COUNTY: Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has said he will take a motion to parliament seeking the freezing of bank accounts for counties whose governors are fronting theย Pesa Mashinaniย referendum campaign.

Speaking in Konoin during a church fundraiser on Sunday, Kuria said the move would ensure that public resources are not misuse by the governors in popularizing the referendum at the expense of development.

He said it was apparent that some governors were deploying public resources to campaign for the referendum.

“It is obvious that none of them is using their salaries and therefore public resources are in danger and something should be done to safeguard them for public interest and development,” the fiery MP said

He said if nothing is done, a lot of public funds which are meant for development would go to waste.

“We know very well that they are using public resources on their campaigns and the only way they can come clean and tell us where these monies are from is to close their bank accounts. Public monies cannot be misused,” said Kuria.

He wondered where the county chiefs were sourcing the ‘huge’ funds for holding their nationwide rallies from saying they should be put to task to explain it.

Kuria who was accompanied by the National Water Conservation and Pipeline Corporation chairman Dr Julius Kones, The Kenya Post Bank chairman Fred Kapondi and three Members of the county assembly-Julius Korir, Robert Serbai and Benard Ngeno hit out at the governors saying if they are keen on pushing for referendum at the expense of service delivery, their county bank accounts should be first closed.

“These governors led by the chairman Isaac Ruto are not keen on delivering services to the people. They are all day ‘barking’ around the country asking for more money now we wonder at what time do they serve their people,” Kuria said

Kuria sensational claimed that Governor Ruto was positioning himself to reap political gains from the fate of Deputy President William Ruto’s fate in the ongoing case at the International Criminal Court (ICC).
