UKNAIROBI, KENYA: President Uhuru Kenyatta Saturday thanked the United States of America for undertaking a military operation that killed Al Shabaab leader Muktar Abdirahman Godane.

In a statement to newsrooms, President Uhuru said Godane’s death brings “small measure of closure” to Westgate attack victims.

Referring to the Westgate attack that took place in September 23, 2013 the president said the Kenyan Government had achieved all things it promised to do almost a year after the terrorist attack in which at least 67 people were killed.

“We also vowed that the perpetrators of the attack would not go unpunished, whether by our hands, or those of our friends.” Uhuru said.

President Uhuru added that Godane’s death is a reminder that those who live by the sword shall perish by the sword.

?“We owe the United States, and its soldiers, our heartfelt thanks for bringing an end to Godane’s career of death and destruction; and finally allowing us to begin our healing process.” The statement from statehouse read.

The president has also reiterated Kenya’s readiness to cooperate with its partners and allies to secure itself and the region.
