Word of the Day: Our time in God’s Word

Word of the Day: Our time in God’s WordThere are many ways we can approach our time in God’s Word. It can be seen as part of a quiet time discipline. It can be viewed as needed in order to be filled with things of God, or as a goal to read the Bible through in one year. Bible reading time may be approached as something to gain knowledge, transform one’s thinking, or to change one’s heart.

But how many of us approach God’s Word with no specific expectations? How many of us read God’s Word recreationally? Consider a time when you wish to unwind and relax. What do you want to do? Do you read a magazine, or watch TV? Perhaps you might consider reading God’s Word instead. You should already be reading His Word as a part of your disciplines.

But try sitting down with God’s Word without an agenda, an amount to read through, a specific purpose or plan. In so doing, you are open to whatever the Spirit would do. In so doing, you allow the Word of God to further become a part of you even within your time of recreation.

Psalm 1:1-3, NIV: Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.
