Pastor William Bittock mother’s Medical Fund
At 66, our mother, Anne, has enjoyed good health for the better part of her life. This is despite wearing the many hats that she has for most of her life: dutiful daughter to her parents, mother figure to her younger siblings, loving companion to our departed father (widowed for 23 years), matriarch and provider to our extended family, enterprising & adventurous businesswoman, faithful servant to the church & community, and certainly not in the least of all, the best Mom anyone could ask for!
This was until a couple of months ago when she complained of back pains and subsequent swelling of her left leg. On Tuesday 9th December, 2014, Mom was admitted at Aga Khan Hospital in Mombasa, Kenya where it was determined that the swelling was caused by a Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT/blood clot) caused by a tumour in her abdomen. The first course of treatment was the insertion of an IVC filter to prevent the clot from reaching vital organs. Based on the C/T scans, another intrusive surgery was performed by an OB/GYN on the suspicion of ovarian cancer. Despite the pain and suffering the aftermath of the surgery caused, it was all in vain as the doctors found that the tumour was elsewhere! A specimen was then taken for a biopsy to determine whether or not it is cancerous. The results have been inconclusive.
After more than 3 weeks in hospital, Mom needs yet another biopsy procedure at the more equipped Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi which will require her being airlifted from Mombasa.
Needless to say, this has taken a huge toll not only physically and emotionally, but also financially. Our shortfall to date stands at $17,000 and continues to grow by the day and with every course of treatment given.
More than anything, we ask you to stand with us in prayer as we continue to face this challenging season of our lives. Your generous donations of any amount will go a step further in easing the financial burden and ensuring our beloved Mom gets the best treatment possible. As I mentioned earlier, a whole community counts on her well being.
