FUEL-PUMP-527x350Kenyans will enjoy lower fuel prices for the next one month following the announcement of new prices by the Energy Regulatory Commission for the coming month.

Starting midnight Saturday, pump stations will be forced to lower the price of Kerosene by Sh13.17 that of super by Sh8.17 while diesel will cost Sh7.83 less.

As a result, in Nairobi, the price of super petrol will be at Sh84.71, diesel at Sh75.52 and kerosene Sh 52.4 while in Mombasa, super petrol will sell at Sh81.42, diesel Sh72.25 and kerosene Sh49.69.

The low oil prices are occasioned by the falling crude oil prices that reached $52 Friday from a high of $114 in June 2014.

These are the lowest prices since December 2011, making it a 39-month low.

“Petroleum companies and dealers are reminded that it is an offence to sell petroleum products above the maximum prices published by the commission,” said ERC director general Joseph Ng’ang’a on Saturday while releasing the new prices.

“Any party that contravenes this requirement is liable to a fine of up to Sh1,000,000 and or the withdrawal of the operating licence.”

The director general asked members of the public to remain vigilant for any pump stations selling at higher prices.

The commission has set up a hotline 0708444000 where members of the public can send information on non-compliance.

Consumers can also obtain the set limits for various towns by sending the message “price” and the name of the town to 0707766623.
