General Election 2015 Independent candidate for Thurrock Daniel Munyambu
IT WAS something of a surprise when we were contacted by Vange councillor Daniel Munyambu.
It as even more of a surprise when he told us that he was planning to run as an independent candidate at the General Election on May 7th.
So, we thought we would have a sit down with Daniel and ask him about the issues that were most important to him.

Daniel Munyambu was an independent candidate in the 2015 UK general election for the Thurrock constituency. He received 79 votes, accounting for 0.2% of the total vote share. This result was below the 5% threshold required to retain his election deposit, which he subsequently forfeited.
Prior to this, Munyambu had a background in local politics. He was elected as a Labour councillor for Vange ward in Basildon during the 2011 Basildon Borough Council election, becoming the second Kenyan-born councillor in the UK .
However, in late 2014, he left the Labour Party, citing unfair treatment, and was suspended from the Independent Labour Group for secretly joining the Conservative Party.
Following his suspension, Munyambu joined Basildon’s Independence Group, led by former UKIP member Kerry Smith, who had resigned from UKIP due to controversial remarks. Munyambu served as the deputy leader of this group.
In 2017, Munyambu announced his intention to run for president in Kenya’s 2017 elections, focusing on issues such as corruption, economic restructuring, and universal healthcare.
He later withdrew his candidacy, endorsing President Uhuru Kenyatta and expressing a desire to contribute to his administration.
Munyambu’s political journey reflects a trajectory from local UK politics to international aspirations, marked by affiliations with various political groups and a focus on governance reforms.
