Did President Uhuru Kenyatta refuse to endorse a man from the Rift Valley as the next clerk of the National Assembly? Our moles tell us that a delegation from Deputy President William Ruto’s side that visited State House some time back had introduced the man as the person who Jubilee should rally behind for the job. But the President is said to have turned down this proposal, telling them he was not interested in interfering with the workings of Parliament.

Did the President dismiss Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko during the Labour Day celebrations or was he wooing Governor Evans Kidero to his side? While addressing the celebrations, the President told off a crowd that was shouting Sonko’s name and asked them to give Kidero room to deliver for Nairobi. “Wacheni hiyo mambo ya Sonko yenu. Governor wa Nairobi ni Kidero. Nyinyi ndio mlimchagua, sio mimi. Mkitaka kumchagua Sonko huko mbeleni pia mko huru. Ni haki yenu,” the Presdient told the crowd.

Just why can’t some governors concentrate on serving their residents with honesty and stop extortion from contractors? We are told a governor from Nyanza was at it again last week when he accosted a contractor at a Nairobi hotel and demanded his ‘cut’ of a Sh5 million kickback. The contractor had begged for payment from the county government with the promise of giving the notorious county chief ‘kitu kidogo’, but when the payments were made the contractor is said to have vanished to Nairobi. A number of contractors have complained over the governor’s behaviour and have threatened to expose him.

A former MP from Kisii region was heard grumbling at a popular restaurant in the town over not being named in the recent parastatal appointments. The former one-term legislator had high hopes that he would be named chairman of a parastatal after he was called to deliver his CV to a senior government official, who claimed he had been dispatched from the House on the Hill. After the embarrassment, the septuagenarian has vowed to reconsider his association with Jubilee. In the meantime, he has decided to do a follow-up to establish if he had been defrauded without knowing and his name substituted.
