Committee chairperson Mutahi Kagwe (Nyeri Senator) took a swipe at the Governor saying key issues for discussion touched on him directly.
“It is unfortunate the Governor is not here with us yet the main aim of our visit was to discuss critical matters that would best be handled in his presence,” said Kagwe.
Kagwe was accompanied by Senators Wilfred Lesan (Bomet), Juma Boi (Kwale) and Daisy Kanainza, nominated senator representing the youth.
Lesan also took issue with the Governor saying his absence was in bad light since he failed to formally notify them.
During a meeting with the MCAs, Lesan said there was need to align key functions with relevant departments for efficient service delivery.
“You cannot have departments like Finance, Trade or even ICT lumped together. With this you cannot achieve the targets of a particular department,” he said.
The committee held meetings with Executive committee members David Cheruiyot (Trade), Rachel Ngeno (Education), Patricia Lasoi (Urban Planning), Edda Byegon (Roads) and county Chief of Administration Eric Kirui.
A source at the Governor’s office defended Rutto saying he had notified the committee of his absence.
“The Governor was held up in official duties elsewhere otherwise he would have been here with the team,” the source said.
