Ibrahim Ali Abdi.Police constable Ibrahim Ali Abdi from Mariakani weighbridge convinced NPSC vetting board led by chairman Johnston Kavuludi that his net worth is only Sh 2,016 .

Abdi, having been in the force for 20 years, said that he has two wives and five children, the first born being a form one at a boarding school in Thika.

The startled members of the vetting board looked confused when Abdi narrated his ordeal on how his other wife had to ‘run away” because of his poverty.

“Am the only breadwinner in our family, I come from a very poor background in Wajir, I got married immediately I joined the police force,” he told the commission.

The officer said he has never taken any loan and has only one account at the co-operative bank.

But Kavuludi urged members of the public to be more vigilant since traffic cops have now opted other means of collecting bribe from motorists.

Some of the tactics involve the use of Mpesa agents and touts.

“We are aware of how traffic police officers are now collecting bribes, even through breakdown services. This is totally graft,” Kavuludi said.
