Burnt matatu

Matatu Owners Association (MOA) on Wednesday made good their threat to deliver the shell of a matatu burnt during CORD’s Monday demonstrations to Opposition leader Raila Odinga’s office.

The angry youths linked to the Forward Sacco reportedly marched from Kayole and Kariobangi to Mr Odinga’s Capital Hill office in Upper Hill, Nairobi, where they blocked the entrance with the matatu wreckage.

MOA chairman Simon Kimutai had earlier in the day confirmed to that they would dump the remains of the 28-seater matatu at the former Prime Minister’s office in order to be compensated.

“We will take the matatu’s at CORD’s offices for them to see what their protests caused. We want them to see first hand but not in newspapers. They don’t want to compensate us,” Mr Kimutai said.

The said matatu was set ablaze by rowdy youth on Juja road before military officers at Moi Airbase intervened.
