The newest upcoming power couple involving Sonkoโs eldest daughter Saumu Mbuvi andย Benson Gatu is no longer a well kept secret.
The two lovebirds have spoken up about their relationship in an interview with Pulse.
Saumuโs relationship with the aspiring politician became public in June after we published a photo of the two.
One month later, their relationship has become a public affair with some media outlets even reporting that the two are set to walk the aisle.
Well to put to rest the speculations, the couple opened up about the relationship from when they met in 2013.
โPulseโ reports that on that cold June morning, like a stranger, she walked inside the Jomo Kenyatta University moot court where Benson was. He hardly knew her. She had never spoken to him but as a fellow student, she had seen him several times. At this time, Benson was a senior student and an aspiring studentsโ leader.
โI kind of liked him during that first meeting. One thing led to another and with time I went ahead to rally behind his campaign as one of the aspiring student leaders owing to my influence within the university,โ reveals Saumu, describing her heartthrob as a loving, ambitious and charming.
Four years later, their relationship has stood the test of timeย even as critics dismissed their affair as a passing cloud.
During Saumuโs graduation party, it was revealed that Benson Gatu had already been introduced to Saumuโs family. The young gentleman sat next toย his would be father-inโlaw Sonko andย surprised many when he gave Saumu Sh250,000 as her graduation present.
It was reported that Benson was being funded by the Nairobi senator, reports which Benson denies.
โThe truth is, I have never received a single cent from him except for his occasional hospitality in offering me a drink or a meal once in a while.โ
โI am a very simple person. I come from a humble background having been born back in the village in Mathioya. Loving Saumu is effortless. It is purely a mutual feeling,โ he added.
โI find it unfair that people judge you when they donโt even have the least clue who you really are. It is not for me to stop critics from saying that I am in this for the money as they are entitled to their opinion.โ
According to the independent lawyer-cum-businessman who operates within and outside the country, getting married is not the coupleโs priority right now.
โAt the moment we are busy embarking on other issues besides establishing my career further. We will cross the wedding bridge when we get there.โ
