VIDEO:Waiguru officially joins politics, drops role as state technocrat

Former Devolution CS Anne Waiguru has officially joined politics. She has shelved her role in the state as a technocrat.

Waiguru, who announced her membership of the TNA party on Friday, is touted for the race to occupy the Kirinyaga governor seat in the 2017 general election.

She was presented with a gold membership of The National Alliance, therefore becoming a life member.

“TNA is the first party I have ever become a member of in my move from being a technocrat. I am excited now that I will be part of the team,” Waiguru said.

TNA is one of the entities that are waiting for the national delegates meeting that will see at least 13 parties merged to form Jubilee Party.

“I am also going to the grassroots to consult with the people of Kirinyaga before I can finally announce what we agree with them,” she said.

Waiguru is said to be seeking to oust the incumbent governor Joseph Ndathi. Kirinyaga Central MP Joseph Gitari has also shown interest in the seat.

Also in the race to unseat Ndathi is businessman Muriithi Kagai, who contested in the last general election but lost.

The former CS was accompanied by TNA officials from Kirinyaga county when she received the membership certificate.

A meeting is planned in the county this Saturday with more than 1,000 people invited; it is in the meeting that the former CS is expected to declare her stand.

Waiguru’s posters are already circulating but those close to her said it is the work of those who want her to run.

Waiguru shot to the limelight in November 21, 2015, when she resigned as devolution CS citing health concerns.

This was after she was mentioned in the Sh791 million National Youth Service scandal.

She was grilled by EACC detectives over the NYS scam after businesswoman Josephine Kabura, a key suspect in the scandal, swore an affidavit alleging that the former CS was behind the registration of all her companies and received millions of shillings from the fraud.
