Do you sometimes behave like the African Impala in a zoo?

“The only thing worse than being blind is having sight, but no vision.” – Helen Keller

The African Impala in its natural habitation can leap 10 feet high and cover a distance of up to 30 feet ahead.

BUT in a zoo, it´s another story for this agile animal. It will not attempt to jump a 3 feet wall even if it has the potential to escape the zoo.

So why won’t the African Impala jump?

For some simple answers listen in to Design Your Success Podcast episode #70 and discover what your big dreams and goals have to do with the African impala.

By Nancy Gathecha

African impalas in the wild are known for their agility and leaping ability — they can jump over 10 feet high and cover 30 feet in a single bound. But in a zoo, they may not jump even low fences because of learned limitations or lack of motivation.

  • Meaning in behavior: You (or someone) might have great potential but feel trapped by perceived limits or comfort zones — like having the power to leap but choosing not to.
  • Emotional undertone: Frustration, complacency, underachievement.

“I sometimes behave like the African impala in a zoo — capable of so much more, but held back by invisible walls I’ve grown used to.”
