Kenyan Man Found Dead in Nyatike Following Alleged Love Triangle

A tragic incident in Nyatike, Migori County, has left residents in shock after a Kenyan man was found dead following an alleged confrontation involving a local pastor and his wife.

The deceased, identified as Tobias Oyoo, was reportedly involved in a dispute after learning of an alleged affair between his wife and Pastor Fred Ochieng’, who was also his friend. The three were members of the same church, Roho Msalaba Church.

Police have launched investigations into the incident, while the pastor is reportedly being sought by authorities.

Marriage Dispute Had Recently Been Resolved

According to Osiri Chief David Oula, the couple had recently attended mediation aimed at reconciling their marriage after the alleged affair became a source of conflict.

“Oyoo and his wife had just resolved their marital differences at my office and were preparing to reunite. The alleged relationship with the suspect had been the main issue affecting their marriage,” the chief said.

The reconciliation agreement reportedly required Oyoo to provide financial support to his mother-in-law on Tuesday, after which his wife was expected to return to their matrimonial home on Wednesday.

Confrontation Turns Fatal

Authorities say Oyoo later received information that his wife had once again been seen with the pastor.

Determined to verify the reports, he reportedly rode a motorcycle approximately 30 kilometers from Sori Town to Osiri, where he is said to have found the pair together in a secluded area.

According to Chief Oula, Oyoo parked his motorcycle by the roadside before walking into nearby vegetation, where a confrontation allegedly broke out.

The woman reportedly fled the scene and later reported the incident to the chief’s office that same night.

Body Discovered in Abandoned Gold Mine

A search team dispatched to the area found signs indicating that a violent struggle had occurred near an abandoned gold mining site.

During the search, Oyoo’s body was discovered inside a deep mine.

“When the mine was inspected, the man was found dead after apparently falling headfirst onto sharp rocks,” Chief Oula said.

Investigators are working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the death.

Police Launch Manhunt

Nyatike Sub-County Police Commander Dishon Chebaka confirmed that all three individuals involved knew one another and described the matter as an active criminal investigation.

Police have recovered the deceased’s motorcycle, while the woman has been assisting investigators.

Authorities have launched a manhunt for the pastor, who remains at large.

“The motorcycle and the woman are at Macalder Police Station. We have launched a manhunt for the suspect,” Chebaka said.

Oyoo’s body was transferred to Migori Level Four Hospital Mortuary, where a postmortem examination is expected to help determine the exact cause of death.

Impact on the Kenyan Diaspora

Although the incident occurred in Kenya, the story has drawn significant attention among Kenyans living abroad, many of whom continue to follow developments affecting their families and communities back home. Cases involving domestic disputes, gender-based violence, and unresolved relationship conflicts often spark conversations within diaspora communities about mental health, conflict resolution, family counseling, and access to community support services.

Community leaders continue to encourage couples experiencing marital challenges to seek professional counseling, mediation, and legal support before disputes escalate into violence.

Investigation Continues

Police have urged anyone with information that could assist in locating the suspect to report to the nearest police station.

Investigators are expected to interview additional witnesses and await forensic findings as they continue to piece together the events leading to Oyoo’s death.

Diaspora Messenger will continue following the case and provide updates as more verified information becomes available.
