DEVOTION: How To Live A Blessed Year

As we begin this year 2018, we are all anticipating and praying that this will be a blessed year for us. In addition to praying, many take steps that they have heard are sure to receive blessings from the Lord. This includes the most popular one, “Plant a seed!” In the next few days, I will be listing clear ways the Lord has given us on how to live a blessed life.

Here is the first one: Trust in the Lord!

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord,
whose trust is the Lord. Jeremiah 17:7

They that trust in the Lord are blessed; but the Lord does not stop there – He gives us an illustration of how a person who trusts in the Lord looks like.

He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream,
and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green,
and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.”
Jeremiah 17:8

This refers to abundant supply of your daily needs. This includes good health, for this tree does not fear when the heat comes for its leaves remain green throughout the year. The person continues to be productive in what he does because the supply never ends.

Who would not want to be this kind of person? However, what does it mean to trust in the Lord? One of my favorite life passages in the book of Proverbs helps in explaining it.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6

In this verse, we see that trusting the Lord is to rely on the Lord in all that we do without relying on our own understanding. This means without relying on our education, experience, expertise or maturity. It is total trust in God’s guidance in what we want to do or in doing His will. Committing our plans, dreams, etc. to Him. Never make any move without getting a green light from God.

In every step of our plans or progress in what we are doing, we must acknowledge His provisions, guidance, breakthroughs, etc. We do this by giving Him praises and thanksgiving. The result is more blessings. He will make our paths straight.

You can never go wrong when you trust in the Lord. He is faithful to His promises and He will never let you down. This is why; if your want to have a blessed year 2018, then the first thing you need to do is to “Trust in the Lord!”

1.     Is it difficult to commit your plans and ways to the Lord? If so, what makes it difficult?

2.     Has God proved to you that it is worth trusting in Him? In what ways and when did this happen? Write this down. These will help you as you commit your ways to the Lord for this New Year.

3.     What areas of your life are you trusting the Lord in this New Year?

4.     What impact does this devotion have to your New Year resolution?

Whoever gives thought to the word will discover good,
and blessed is he who trusts in the Lord.

 Proverbs 16:20
