Rex Tillerson arrives in Nairobi for meetings with Uhuru, Raila

Tillerson is also expected to speak on how Kenya in partnership with other Africa countries can keep their resources and benefit from them.

The US envoy kicked off his inaugural tour of the continent on Tuesday in Addis Ababa Ethiopia.

He held talks with the country’s leadership and African Union Commission officials.

Tilerson is expected to visit Chad, Djibouti and Nigeria in the coming days during his visit that ends next on March 13.

His arrival followed after Uhuru and Raila agreed to work together towards healing divisions arising from last year’s general elections.

They told Kenyans they had set their differences aside and would work to unite the public.

The two met at Harambee House office of the President before addressing the press. They neither specified their strategies nor took any questions.

Raila, who was first to speak, noted ethnic division came to an end today and that he and his ‘brother’ will bridge the existing gap.

Kenya has faced tumultuous times since the disputed August 8, 2018 presidential election, whose outcome Raila objected and termed Uhuru an illegitimate President.
