Celebrated Kenyan media personality and former Jacque Maribe has distanced herself from the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani following intense police investigations linked to the high-profile case that shocked Kenya and the diaspora community.
According to reports by The Standard, Maribe presented herself at the Kilimani Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices before later being transferred to the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road for further questioning.
Jacque Maribe Explains Her Actions to Investigators
During hours of interrogation, Maribe reportedly told investigators that she fled to her father’s home after learning that her fiancé, Joseph Irungu, had been named the prime suspect in Monica Kimani’s murder.
Police investigators stated that Maribe had allegedly ignored multiple calls from detectives earlier in the week as authorities sought additional information regarding the ongoing investigations.
The former Citizen TV news anchor explained that she met Irungu at a Nairobi entertainment club, where the two later developed a romantic relationship that eventually led to an engagement.
Police Investigations Intensify
Investigators also examined Maribe’s vehicle for forensic evidence after reports indicated that Joseph Irungu frequently used the car to drop her off and pick her up from work.
Authorities arrested Irungu after Monica Kimani’s neighbors allegedly identified him during an identification parade conducted at Kilimani Police Station. Witnesses reportedly claimed he was the last person seen entering the deceased’s apartment before her death.
Preliminary investigations suggested that Irungu and Monica Kimani had known each other for several years dating back to their time at Kenya Polytechnic. Reports further indicated that the two had allegedly met on multiple occasions in Kenya, Dubai, and South Sudan.
Fake Identity Allegedly Used During Visit
Investigators tracking Irungu’s phone records reportedly traced his movements to Monica Kimani’s residence on the day of the murder. Police allege that he used a fake identity while gaining access to the apartment complex.
The Monica Kimani murder case attracted widespread attention across Kenya and among Kenyans living abroad, with many closely following court proceedings and police investigations involving some of the country’s most recognizable public figures.
Kenyan Diaspora Reactions
The case generated significant debate among Kenyans in the diaspora, particularly on social media platforms, where discussions centered around celebrity influence, justice, and the role of the media during criminal investigations.
Many diaspora members expressed concern over the emotional and reputational impact such high-profile criminal cases can have on families and careers, especially when public personalities are involved.
