Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso has advised young men to avoid looking at friendships as investments.
Addressing youth at a function in Bomet Town, Laboso noted that spending on a woman does not give men the right to expect them to behave in a particular way. In addition, spending on a woman does not give men the right to expect them to fulfill all their desires.
“So, let us not look at the friendships that we make as investments. You are going to give your girlfriend Sh4,000. It is not an investment that you are buying her that she now must behave in a certain way. Furthermore, according to Joyce Laboso, Bomet Governor, relationships should not be transactional.
“Let us find ways and means of delinking what we do with our friends from how we are expecting them to reciprocate,” she stated.
The governor lamented recent cases where lives have been lost due to conflict in relationships. She noted that youth should seek alternative ways of venting out their frustrations. In fact, Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso emphasized staying safe through healthy communication.
“We are really witnessing very strange phenomena in our country at the moment, particularly on the killings of young ladies. It is really unfortunate, and we cannot understand what is going on with some of our youth.
“We want to encourage them that counseling needs to be done. Families too should come in and try to understand the changes today’s youth are going through,” she remarked. Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso also urged families to support their loved ones.
Laboso also commented on the killing of Moi University student Ivy Wangechi. She urged ladies to look out for red flags early in the relationship. Moreover, she told them to walk away before the situation gets out of hand. In the wake of recent tragedies, Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso’s advice carries significant weight.
“Look at that young, beautiful and wonderful girl we lost in Eldoret the other day. Look at those many beautiful girls (who were killed in the recent past).
“Young ladies, when you see a partner of yours, a friend, a boyfriend starting to behave in a certain manner that is unlike them before, it is good you run away very quickly,” she said. Interestingly, Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso wants young women to act promptly at signs of danger.
Laboso further noted that society expects a lot from young men. Although the pressure becomes too much, they should never turn to violence. She highlighted this message as Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso during her speech.
“For young men, the society expects a lot from you and we know that sometimes when you are unable to provide; when you are unable to do the things that, maybe, young ladies are expecting (of you), you get frustrated. Additionally, Bomet’s Joyce Laboso governor calls for understanding and supportive environments.
“Kindly, vent out that frustration elsewhere rather than thinking that ‘if I cannot get this lady, then I would ensure she dies so that no other man is able to befriend her’,” she said. Taking responsibility is something Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso encourages in all relationships.
