Anyang’ Nyong’o and Raila Odinga

Kisumu Governorย Anyang’ Nyong’o, on Wednesday, apologized to AU Special Envoy Raila Odinga following an embarrassing incident that occurred when the ODM leader wasย giving a speechย in Muhoroni, earlier in the week.

In a statement to newsrooms, the Governor described the heckling by a section of youth a disgrace terming the disruptors asย enemies of development.

โ€œIt is regrettable that a small band of engineered naysayers who have deliberately decided to resist development in the county as a whole purely for political mileage decided to embarrass our guests,โ€ Prof Nyongโ€™o conveyed.

โ€œWe shall not be deterred from continuing with changing Kisumuโ€™s economy for the better to please a few visionless people,โ€ he added.

Echoing his sentiments was Muhoroni MPย Onyangoย Kโ€™Oyoo who was in Botswana during Raila’s visit to his constituency. K’Oyoo stated that it was wrong for the youth to embarrass the former Prime Minister.

โ€œThis is regrettable and should not have happened especially for our party leader. We condemn this in the strongest words possible,โ€ he maintained.

Earlier on, Rarieda MPย Otiende Amollo, who was present during the event,ย explained that the fracas was caused by five to seven men who were quickly neutralized.

The MP added that the group did not have an issue with Raila rather with the county government over land grabbing claims.

“They protested that the land, 500-acres, which would be set aside for economic use, was their ancestral land that had been reverted to the defunct Kisumu Municipal Council after they were moved due to constant flooding.ย They want historical compensation for the land,” he stated.

Some of the protestors who interrupted Raila Odingaโ€™s speech in Muhoroni being evicted by security personnel on May 13, 2019.
