A powerful new initiative aimed at combating gender-based violence (GBV) within communities is set to launch in Washington State through an inspiring event titled “A New Dawn: Blossoming Beyond Abuse.” The event will take place on March 21, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Family Life Center in Federal Way, Washington, bringing together advocates, community leaders, and survivors to raise awareness and promote healing.
The event marks the official launch of the Blossom Beyond Abuse Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded by Alice Wamburi, dedicated to eradicating gender-based violence and advocating for safer, more supportive communities for women, families, and vulnerable individuals.
According to organizers, the evening will feature powerful personal testimonies, educational discussions, and inspirational messages aimed at empowering survivors while mobilizing communities to take action against abuse.
Addressing a Global Human Rights Challenge
Gender-based violence remains one of the most pressing human rights challenges worldwide. It disproportionately affects women and girls and often leaves deep emotional, social, and economic scars on individuals and families.
Organizers say the foundation seeks to confront this crisis by creating awareness, offering support systems, and encouraging communities to stand together against abuse.
“Gender-based violence destabilizes families, erodes the dignity of our communities, and sidelines productive individuals within our ecosystem,” organizers stated, emphasizing that collective action is essential to build safer societies both in Kenya and within the global diaspora.
Distinguished Speakers and Community Leaders
The event will feature several respected speakers and advocates who have dedicated their lives to community empowerment and social justice.
Key speakers include:
- Dianah Kamande – CEO of Come Together Widows & Orphans Organization and keynote speaker
- Sam Mwangi – Executive Director of the Global Fatherhood Foundation
- Dr. Edna Kemboi – CEO and Founder of Thrive After Divorce
- Ruth Mbari – CEO of Kinship Family Restoration Services and event MC
The event will be hosted by Alice Wamburi, Founder and CEO of the Blossom Beyond Abuse Foundation, who has been a passionate advocate for survivors of abuse and community empowerment.
A Platform for Healing and Empowerment
Beyond speeches and discussions, the event promises an atmosphere of hope, healing, and empowerment. Survivors will share testimonies of resilience and recovery, demonstrating how communities can transform pain into strength.
The goal is to encourage individuals and organizations to collaborate in building systems of protection, support, and education that help prevent abuse and promote equality.
Organizers say the evening will include moments of laughter, reflection, and connection, emphasizing the importance of community solidarity in overcoming trauma.

Building Safer Communities
As conversations about domestic violence, family trauma, and survivor support continue to gain global attention, events like A New Dawn: Blossoming Beyond Abuse highlight the critical role community organizations play in creating change.
By bringing together leaders, advocates, and survivors, the initiative hopes to inspire a movement toward healing, empowerment, and justice for those affected by abuse.
The message of the event is clear:
“Together, we rise. Together, we blossom and rise beyond abuse.”

Dear beloved sister Alice Wamburi,
It is with profound joy and a spirit of celebration that I send this message of commendation as you launch your Anti-GBV Initiative, “A New Dawn: Blossoming Beyond Abuse,” and officially inaugurate the Blossom Beyond Abuse Foundation.
Alice, your journey is a living testament to the truth found in Isaiah 61:3, which promises “to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.” You have not only traded your ashes for beauty, but you are now reaching back to ensure others can do the same.
A Testament of Resilience and Faith:
Your story is one of remarkable courage. To face the darkness of domestic violence and emerge not just a survivor, but a victor, requires a faith that is anchored in the Rock of Ages.
I especially want to commend your unwavering commitment to your family. Your resilience in:
1. Overcoming the trials of domestic abuse.
2. Securing custody of your two sons against the odds.
3. Successfully relocating them from Kenya to the USA.
4. Working tirelessly to provide them with a full and supportive life.
These are not just personal victories; they are a reflection of Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Your life proves that with God, no valley is too deep to climb out of and no horizon is too far to reach.
A Beacon for the Diaspora and Beyond:
By establishing this foundation in Washington, you are providing a critical bridge for the Kenyan Diaspora and the global community. You are transforming your personal pain into a public platform for healing, justice, and empowerment. We wish you had established the platform while you were here in Arizona but the LORD’s timing and location is the best.
As you bring together leaders and advocates, remember the strength of your own message: “Together, we rise. Together, we blossom and rise beyond abuse.” This echoes the biblical principle that we are better together, and that a cord of three strands is not easily broken.
Closing Prayer and Blessing:
Alice, may the Blossom Beyond Abuse Foundation be a sanctuary for the brokenhearted and a catalyst for systemic change. May God grant you continued wisdom as Founder and CEO to lead with grace and authority.
Your brethren in Arizona, celebrate you, honor your strength, and stand with you as you usher in this “New Dawn.”
Blessings,
Rev. John Wesley Nguuh
Thank you so much, Rev. John Wesley. You have truly been a pillar in my life and in the lives of my children. The many days you encouraged me, prayed over me, and simply listened while I was fighting for my children will never be forgotten.
When the boys arrived, the Arizona community embraced them with open arms—praying, welcoming, and making them feel at home in a new land. That love meant more than words can express.
You will always have a page in our story.
May we all rise as cycle breakers. May we continue creating safe societies for our children and for generations to come. Blessings always for the role you play in so many lives. 🙏
