NAIROBI: Police have promised not to disrupt traffic and businesses when Pope Francis visits Kenya in November this year.
Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet said they will instead invite Kenyans to line up on the roads to welcome the Pope.
“Unlike what happened when President Obama came to Kenya in July and we closed major roads in the city, when the Pope arrives, we will call on Kenyans to come to the roads to see and welcome him. No business will be closed,” said Boinnet.
He said a team to plan for the pope’s visit had been set up and started its work. The police boss said operations will be normal during the two-day visit.
He made the remarks when he addressed a group of senior police officers in Nairobi County as they discussed reforms.
Pope Francis will visit Kenya on November 25 before going to Uganda on November 27 and concluding his trip in the Central African Republic on November 29. A Vatican team arrived recently to discuss the visit.
