A Kenyan village is living in fear after a woman was killed in her home by a male lion that had escaped from a game reserve.
The lion mauled Martha Nduta, 58, in Rubere village in Nyahururu district on Friday, before dragging her body back into the reserve where it ate her, leaving behind only her skull and a few bones, Kenyan newspaper The Daily Nation reports.
Nduta’s relatives identified her from some torn clothes and a shoe found at the scene.
Francio Nyamatari, Laikipia West police chief said Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) rangers and officials from the game Laikipia Nature Conservancy were working together to hunt down the lion and kill it.
It is believed the lion escaped from the 46sqkm reserve after the electric fence that surrounds it was damaged by elephants.
Mr Nyamatari said KWS would continue to search for the lion described by locals as dangerous.
