A Tulsa, Oklahoma Priest and a seminary student from Kenya were killed in a three-car collision in north Tulsa early Sunday.

Two men, both 32, died at the scene after a Chevrolet Impala ran a red light and struck the Nissan Altima they were traveling in, said Capt. Karen Tipler with the Tulsa Police Department.

The men were Father Jorge Gomez and Stanley Kariuki, a seminary student from Kenya, said Father Tim Davison of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 1436 N. 67th East Ave.

Tipler said the driver of the Impala, a 33-year-old woman, was frightened by gunshots in the area and was speeding northbound through the intersection of 36th Street North and North Cincinnati Avenue when she hit the Altima.

The Altima was proceeding through a green light eastbound at the intersection when it was struck and pushed into a third vehicle.

Police responded to the wreck around 12:35 a.m. Sunday. Tipler said the driver of the Impala suffered some injuries that were not life-threatening, and people traveling in the third vehicle were shaken up but uninjured.

“Both (Gomez and Kariuki) will be sorely missed,” Davison said.

Gomez had recently completed his seminary training and was Davison’s assistant. “He loved it here. He was very excited and energetic,” Davison said.

He also said many in the parish loved Kariuki, who was eager to serve the church as well.
