Tour in Kisumu

In November 2011, Raphael Tuju, a  former Foreign Affairs Minister, faced significant opposition during his campaign tour in Kisumu, Kenya.

While visiting the Kondele area, his convoy was pelted with stones by rowdy youths, resulting in damage to vehicles and injuries to six individuals.

The attack was widely condemned across the political spectrum. The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) described the incident as “the apex in the country’s pyramid of intolerance” and emphasized the importance of political tolerance ahead of the 2012 general elections.

Similarly, Tuju’s political counterparts, including members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), condemned the violence, with some suggesting that the incident might have been orchestrated to influence public sentiment.

Despite the adversity, Tuju expressed forgiveness towards the perpetrators and chose not to pursue legal action. He emphasized his commitment to preaching peace and love, stating that he would not shy away from visiting Kisumu in the future.
