Kenyan beauty finds new hope in Australia

WITH long limbs to the sky, a statue-esque figure and a face that has the promising look of campaign mania, it is not hard to spot Sylviah Tuikong standing streetside.

The stunning, aspiring model is only 22, but if first appearances are anything to go by, she has a bright future ahead.

Sylviah left her home town in the Rift Valley, Kenya, about two years ago to start a new life in Australia.

It was in Africa where she met her future husband, an Australian who was on a safari holiday.

They now live at Miranda with their four-year-old daughter.

Sylviah hopes to build up a modelling portfolio, and at 179 centimetres, it might only be a matter of time before her favourite designer, Alex Perry, could notice her potential.

The star-in-the-making comes from a sporting family — her father was a successful long distance runner in their town that is known to be a popular training area for many professional athletes.

Her line of work here has included a small role in Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby, which recently wrapped up filming in Sydney.

Sylviah was among a few other models chosen to appear in the movie that stars Leonardo DiCaprio.

She scored the part through Sydney Model Agency, a college which helps boost young women’s confidence through personal development workshops and prepares them for the industry.

But Sylviah has also expanded her education in another career of interest.

“I completed a certificate in nursing and aged care, and I’m now doing a business course at Gymea TAFE,” she said.

“I’d also like to study accounting at university.

“I love Australia.

“Everything is so stable, not like in my country where you can’t expect anything to go right.

“The people are so nice here.

“I think we will have a really good future here.”

Sydney Model Agency’s next course starts at the Greenwood Hotel, North Sydney, on April 16.

The curriculum includes training in presentation, public speaking and motivation, interviews, fashion co-ordination and style, catwalk, nutrition and exercise, and professional photo shoots.
