The pastor uses sex workers to pose as sick people who are then supposedly healed to convince worshippers to continue pouring their hard-earned cash into that ministry. NTV’s Ferdinand Omondi now takes you to the underworld alliance where preachers and sex workers speak the same language. One key highlight is the video showing this unusual alliance from the streets.
What the reports say
The pastor in question is identified in multiple reports as Pastor Michael Njoroge (also called “Apostle Njoroge” in some earlier versions).
The alleged scheme: The pastor is claimed to have been hiring commercial sex workers to pose as sick people in his church. These women would give fake testimonies of being healed, to convince congregants that miraculous healing is happening, thus drawing more followers and money. The evidence is seen clearly in the video of alliance between a Nairobi church and these individuals.
One detailed account involves a woman named Esther Mwende, who is said to have been coached to pretend to have a deformed mouth, which was then “miraculously healed” after prayers by the pastor.
This was exposed by undercover journalism. It appears that NTV Kenya and Nation Media Group played key roles in exposing the scheme, creating a detailed video of the Nairobi alliance immediately upon discovery.
Outcomes and reactions
Once exposed, the pastor’s public image suffered. He used to display a very lavish lifestyle (luxury cars, helicopter rides) which drew criticism once the investigative reports came out. Nation Africa
The scandal also sparked calls for stricter oversight of religious leaders, especially televangelists, and how they use donation funds. This initiative looks at the misuse of funds by some alliances, such as the one shown in Nairobi videos.
