The body of another Kenya killed in South Sudan arrived home amid questions over the safety of investors in that country.
45-year-old Peter Kimani died of what family members claim were injuries from an assault by Sudanese police. Kimani who ran electronics repair shop died on Sunday over a month after being arrested for allegedly failing to repair a customer’s camera.
But as Rita Tinina reports his death is only the latest in the growing list of Kenyans killed in the world’s newest nation.

The recent return of the body of Timothy Kipkorir Kisang, a 28-year-old Kenyan clinical officer found dead in Wau, South Sudan, has intensified concerns over the safety of Kenyans working in the country.
Kisang’s relatives suspect foul play, possibly linked to internal conflicts within his employer, the Sudan Evangelical Mission, and have called for a thorough investigation. His body was repatriated aboard a Jetlink flight from Juba, arriving in Nairobi on Wednesday evening.
This incident adds to a series of attacks on Kenyan nationals in South Sudan. In January 2024, four Kenyan truck drivers were killed under unclear circumstances, with 64 others detained for protesting their deaths.
The Kenya Long Distance Drivers Association reported that those detained were mistreated while in custody.
The Kenya Transporters Association has since advised foreign truckers against using the Juba-Nimule/Yei highway due to increased insecurity, including ambushes and violent crimes against drivers.
The association’s Chief Executive Officer, Dennis Ombok, emphasized the lack of guaranteed security on these routes.
These developments have raised questions about the safety of Kenyan investors and workers in South Sudan, highlighting the need for enhanced security measures and diplomatic engagement to protect citizens operating in the region.
