Erroneous beliefs about God can include the belief that God is angry or emotional, or that salvation is based on good behavior. These beliefs can lead to idolatry, heresy, and a misunderstanding of God’s nature.
Examples of erroneous beliefs about God
God is angry
Some believe that God was angry in the Old Testament, but became more merciful in the New Testament.
Salvation is based on good behavior
Some believe that as long as they are good people, God will not send them to hell.
Worship is not important
Some believe that as long as they worship, God will accept them.
God is not important
Some believe that it doesn’t matter what they believe, as long as they are good people.
Christians and Muslims worship the same God
Some believe that Christians and Muslims worship the same God, but they actually worship different deities.
Mary is a god
Some Muslims believe that the Christian doctrine of the Trinity includes Mary as a god, but the New Testament does not teach this.
